Frederick Green
Bank: Westminster Bank
Place of work: London Hounslow branch
Died: 25 September 1941
Frederick Harold Morris Green (known to his bank colleagues as Freddie) was born on 13 July 1921. He joined the staff of Westminster Bank in February 1938, working at Hounslow branch. He also joined the bank's staff sports club, where he made many friends.
At the end of August 1939, just before the outbreak of the Second World War, Green resigned from the bank to join the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. A few weeks later, however, he returned to the bank, officially on extended unpaid leave from the RAF until they had a place ready for him. That happened at last in June 1940, after which Green trained as a fighter pilot and went on to fly Spitfires in combat.
Sergeant Green died when his plane was shot down during aerial combat off the coast of Cornwall on 25 September 1941. He was 20 years old.
