Edgar Alan Gee, known to his bank colleagues as Alan, was born on 8 April 1920, the son of Edward and Dorothy Gee. He joined the staff of Westminster Bank in August 1937, working at its Liverpool Cressington branch. A bank colleague later recalled, 'his sunny nature and quick smile endeared him to all.' Outside work he was a keen sportsman, and played as scrum half for the First team of Liverpool Rugby Football Club.
He was also a territorial soldier, and early in the Second World War left the bank to go on military service. By 1944 he was a Captain in the Royal Artillery, attached as a pilot to a Royal Air Force squadron. He was killed in action on 7 February 1944. He was 23 years old and left a widow, Lillian Teresa, and a young daughter.
