Charles Gillespie was born in Beith, Ayrshire in 1914, the son of Charles and Agnes Gillespie. He worked for Commercial Bank of Scotland at its Dingwall branch.
During the Second World War Gillespie left the bank to go on military service, becoming a Sergeant in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. He was killed in action on 15 March 1941. He was 26 years old.
Charles Gillespie is commemorated on a bank war memorial at Gogarburn campus, Edinburgh.
