Arthur James Green was born in 1923, the son of Alfred and Elsie Green. In December 1939 he went to work for Williams Deacon's Bank at its Atherton branch.
In September 1942 Green left the bank to go on military service, and by July 1944 he was a Lieutenant in the York & Lancaster Regiment, attached to the Black Watch (Royal Highlanders). He was killed in action in France on 9 July 1944. He was 21 years old.
Arthur Green is commemorated on a bank war memorial at Hardman Boulevard office, Manchester.
