William Kelsall Davies was born on 15 August 1922, the son of William Oswald and Martha Maud Davies. He joined the staff of District Bank as a junior at its Longton branch in October 1938. 

In February 1942 Davies left the bank to go on military service, joining the South Staffordshire Regiment. By late summer 1943 he held the rank of Second Lieutenant and was attached to the King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry, serving in the Mediterranean. He died in Sicily on 12 September 1943. He was 21 years old.
