Richard Dundas
Bank: Commercial Bank of Scotland
Place of work: Head office, Edinburgh
Died: 8 November 1941
Richard Dundas was born in Edinburgh in 1918, the son of Robert Elder Dundas and his wife Edith. In January 1935 he went to work for Commercial Bank of Scotland at its Craiglockhart branch. He later worked at various branches around Edinburgh before joining the staff of the head office correspondence department.
In July 1940 Dundas left the bank to go on military service, becoming a Sergeant in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. On 8 November 1941 he was the observer in the crew of a Wellington bomber which was participating in a raid on Essen when it was shot down over Holland. The entire crew, including 23-year-old Sergeant Dundas, was killed.
Richard Dundas is commemorated on a bank war memorial at Gogarburn campus, Edinburgh.

I am trying to find the family of brave Sgt Dundas as his War Grave has been adopted by a young Dutchman and he would like to tell the Dundas family about this.
Please contact the NatWest Group Remembers team who can put you in touch.
