Herbert Kenneth Daniel was born on 24 June 1909, the son of Ada and Herbert Garfield Daniel. He was educated at Cardiff High School, Monmouth Grammar School and Cardiff Technical College before joining the staff of National Provincial Bank as a probationer at its Cardiff Docks branch in August 1926. He was promoted to junior clerk at Cardiff Docks branch in November 1926 and clerk in January 1929. He moved to Bedminster branch in 1930. He then moved to Bolton branch in 1934 and Minehead branch in 1938.

 

In May 1941 Daniel left the bank to go on military service, joining the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. By spring 1942 he held the rank of Pilot Officer. He was killed in an aircraft accident during a training flight near Maybole, Ayrshire, Scotland on 19 April 1942 when the plane lost a wing. He was 32 years old.
