Eric Francis Daniel was born on 24 June 1921, the son of Herbert Edward and Mabel Maria Daniel. He joined the staff of District Bank as a junior at its Hanley branch in October 1939. 

In July 1941 Daniel left the bank to go on military service, joining the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. On 29 May 1943 Flying Officer Daniel was reported missing, presumed killed after an operational flight in Malta. He was 20 years old.
