Douglas Gordon Davie was born on 21 September 1916, the son of Janet Gow Davie and James Gordon Davie. He was educated at the High School of Glasgow, and in 1933 joined the staff of National Bank of Scotland, working at its Glasgow Partick branch.
Outside work Davie was a member of the Territorial Army, and after the outbreak of the Second World War in 1939 he left the bank to go on full-time military service, initially in a searchlight battalion of the Royal Artillery. In 1941 he transferred to the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. He trained as a pilot in England and Canada, after which he was posted to Ceylon. Pilot Officer Davie was killed in an air accident there on 7 December 1943. He was 27 years old.
Douglas Davie is commemorated on a bank war memorial at Gogarburn campus, Edinburgh.
