Stanley Franz Cleaver was born on 6 February 1906, the son of Joseph and Agnes Cleaver. He was educated at Harvey Grammar School, Folkestone. He joined the staff of National Provincial Bank as a probationer at West Folkestone branch in June 1923. He was promoted to junior clerk in December 1923 and to clerk in April 1925. He subsequently worked at the bank's Windsor, West Folkestone and Folkestone branches.
In August 1941 Cleaver left the bank to go on war service, joining the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. After initial training he served in an RAF accountant office, initially with the rank of Pilot Officer and later as Flying Officer. Flying Officer Cleaver died on active service on 9 September 1944. He was 38 years old and left a widow, Christine, whom he had married in 1931.
