Kenneth Frank Cope was born on 30 April 1913, the son of Frank and Florence Cope. He was educated at St Olave's High School, Winchmore Hill and Clark's College, Wood Green. He joined the staff of National Provincial Bank as a probationer at London Kilburn branch in August 1929. He was promoted to junior clerk in November 1929 and moved to Islington branch in May 1931. He was promoted to clerk in January 1932, moved to St James Street branch in July 1934 and was transferred to City Office in November 1936.
In September 1940 Cope left the bank to go on war service, joining the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. He was posted to the Far East in spring 1941. Aircraftman 1st Class Cope was captured at the fall of Singapore on 8 March 1942 and died of pneumonia in a prisoner of war camp just over a year later, on 25 March 1943. He was 29 years old and left a widow, Vera, whom he had married in 1939.
