John Corlett

John Norman Corlett was born on 10 October 1924, the son of Thomas William and Isabella Scott Corlett. He joined the staff of Westminster Bank in July 1941, and in February 1943 moved from Cressington to Liverpool branch. 

 

He left the bank to go on war service in July 1943, just a few weeks before his elder brother Geoffrey, who was serving in the Royal New Zealand Air Force, was killed in action. John became a Sergeant (Wireless Operator/Air Gunner) in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. He died in a plane crash on 24 October 1944. He was 20 years old. 

 

John Corlett is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest Liverpool City Office branch.
