John Anthony Creemer Clarke was born on 12 December 1921, the son of John Creemer and Meta Lyons Clarke. He joined the staff of Westminster Bank in May 1939, working at its Maidenhead branch.
In June 1940 Clarke left the bank to go on war service, becoming a Pilot Officer in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. He was killed during air operations over France on 20 October 1944 and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross the month after his death. He was 22 years old.
