Gordon Alfred Cullener was born on 23 August 1920, the son of Henry George and Lucy Katherine Cullener. He was educated at Dynevor Secondary School, Swansea. He joined the staff of District Bank at its London office in June 1937.
In January 1941 Cullener left the bank to go on military service, joining the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. On 27 March 1943 Sergeant Pilot Cullener was killed when his Hawker Hurricane, a single-seater fighter plane, crashed in Northumberland. He was 22 years old.
