Geoffrey Victor Chadney was born on 11 September 1919, the son of George and Doris Chadney. He was educated at the Royal Grammar School, Worcester. He joined the staff of National Provincial Bank as a probationer at Worcester branch in March 1936 and was promoted to junior clerk in March 1936. He moved to Southend-on-Sea branch in May 1938 and was promoted to clerk in July 1938.
Chadney joined the Territorial Army early in 1939 and later that year was commissioned into the Essex Regiment. By early 1944, when he was posted to Iraq attached to a battalion of the Buffs (Royal East Kent Regiment), he held the rank of Lieutenant. He was killed there as the result of the premature explosion of a hand grenade during bombing practice on 14 July 1944. He was 24 years old.
