Frederick John Chaddock was born on 18 May 1919, the son of Frederick and Elsa Chaddock. He was educated at Westminster Abbey Choir School and Hurstpierpoint College. He joined the staff of National Provincial Bank as a probationer at Stoke on Trent branch in May 1936. He was promoted to junior clerk in August 1936 and to clerk in October 1938, and later transferred to Longton branch.
Outside work, Chaddock was a territorial soldier, having joined the Royal Field Artillery in 1938. He was called up for full time military service at the outbreak of war in September 1939. He obtained his commission in 1940 and went on to see service India, Iraq, Africa and Italy. Lieutenant Chaddock was killed on 21 June 1944 as the result of an accident when a mortar shell exploded during firing practice. He was 25 years old.
