Douglas Curtis
Bank: National Provincial Bank
Place of work: London Holborn Circus branch
Died: 12 August 1946
Douglas Herbert Curtis was born on 16 May 1909, the son of Herbert and Edith Curtis. He was educated at Bancroft's School, Woodford Green. He joined the staff of National Provincial Bank as a probationer at Ilford branch in August 1926 and was promoted to junior clerk in January 1929. He later worked at London 116 Fenchurch Street and Finsbury Square branches before being promoted to clerk at Holborn Circus branch in March 1936.
In July 1941 Curtis left the bank to go on war service as a full-time officer in the National Fire Service, where he rose to the rank of Column Officer. He returned to work for the bank in April 1945, but was transferred to the bank's retired list just over a year later; considering his young age, this indicates he was too ill to work and was not expected to recover. He died in hospital two months later, on 12 August 1946, of illness contracted in the course of his NFS service. He was 37 years old and left a widow, Rachael Nancy, whom he had married in 1938.
