Alexander Campbell was born on 1 October 1914. He joined the staff of National Bank of Scotland in May 1933, working initially at its Glasgow Renfield Street branch and later at its Banff, Glasgow Paisley Road and Glasgow Chief branches.

 

During the Second World War Campbell left his clerk's job at Glasgow Chief Office to join the army, becoming a Gunner in the Royal Artillery. He was killed on 8th January 1940. He was 25 years old.
