Alexander John Cameron was born on 21 March 1912, the son of Duncan Donald Cameron and his wife May. In April 1930, when he was 18 years old, he went to work for the Royal Bank of Scotland as an apprentice at its Grantown-on-Spey branch. In April 1936 he transferred to the bank's London Bishopsgate office. 

 

In July 1940 Cameron left the bank to go on military service, becoming a Corporal in the Reconnaissance Corps. He died in North Africa on 27 February 1943. He was 30 years old and left a widow, Betty Gertrude.

 

Alexander Cameron is commemorated on a bank war memorial at 36 St Andrew Square, Edinburgh.
