Thomas William Barker was born on 23 December 1921, the son of Richard Simon Barker and his wife Constance Mary. He joined the staff of Westminster Bank at its trustee department on Threadneedle Street, London, in June 1939.
In August 1940 Barker left the bank to join the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. After completing his training as a pilot he worked for some time as a flying instructor but eventually secured a transfer to Fighter Command.
Warrant Officer Barker was killed on 1 April 1943, when his single-seater Typhoon was lost in action. He was 21 years old.
Thomas Barker is commemorated on a bank war memorial held at NatWest Group Archives.
