Raymond Douglas Bailey was born in 1916, the son of Charles Arthur and Edith Hunter Bailey of Wallasey. In April 1933 he went to work for Williams Deacon's Bank.
In December 1940 Bailey left his job at the bank's Ellesmere Port branch to go on military service. By 1943 he was a Sub-Lieutenant in the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve, stationed at HMS Grebe, its air station at Alexandria, Egypt. He was killed in action on 6 January 1943. He was 26 years old.
Raymond Bailey is commemorated on a bank war memorial at Hardman Boulevard office, Manchester.
