Maurice Bish was born on 1 June 1919, the son of Percival and Grace L Bish. He joined the staff of Westminster Bank at its Foreign branch in London in July 1936. He also joined the bank's staff sports club.
In September 1939 Bish left the bank to go on war service, joining the Royal Artillery. He transferred to the Corps of Military Police in December 1940 and served in the Far East. He was captured by the Japanese during the fall of Singapore in February 1942.
Lance Corporal Bish died in a prisoner of war camp on the route of the Thailand-Burma railway on 1 November 1943. He was 24 years old.
Maurice Bish is commemorated on a bank war memorial held at NatWest Group Archives.
