Kenneth William Betts was born on 5 November 1919, the son of Harry Betts. He was educated at Surbiton County School. He joined the staff of National Provincial Bank as a probationer at Surbiton branch in August 1936 and was promoted to junior clerk there in November 1936. He moved to Putney branch in April 1937 and was promoted to clerk in January 1939.

 

Outside work Betts was a territorial soldier. He was mobilised for active service at the outbreak of the Second World War, and by 1944 was a Serjeant in the Royal Artillery, serving in Iraq. He died there on 1 April 1944, following an operation. He was 24 years old and left a widow.
