James Christopher Burt was born on 22 July 1926, the son of Winifred and Christopher Charles Burt. He was educated at Hove County School and joined the temporary wartime staff of Westminster Bank in September 1942, working at its Haywards Heath branch. Outside work he was a server at his local church, St Wilfrid's.
In July 1944 Burt left the bank to go on war service, becoming a Private in the Royal Army Medical Corps. He was taken ill with meningitis six months later and died in hospital on 20 January 1945. He was 18 years old.
James Burt is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest Haywards Heath branch.
