Gavin Ross Braidwood was born in Cathcart, Glasgow, in 1920. He worked for National Bank of Scotland at its Glasgow Sauchiehall Street branch.
During the Second World War Braidwood served as a Sergeant in the Cameronians. In 1946 he died of an illness he had contracted the course of his military service. He was about 26 years old.
Gavin Braidwood is commemorated on a bank war memorial at Gogarburn campus, Edinburgh.
