Francis John Brinkman was born on 5 August 1921, the son of William John and Florence May Isabel Brinkman. He joined the staff of Westminster Bank at its London Brompton Square branch in October 1938. A bank colleague later remembered ‘his unfailing cheerfulness and unobtrusive keenness’.
In June 1940 Brinkman left the bank to go on war service, becoming a Private in the East Surrey Regiment. He died suddenly in bed on 24 January 1942. He was 20 years old.
Francis Brinkman is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest London Knightsbridge branch.
