Elliott Frederick Barber was born in Gainsborough in 1907, the son of Charles William Barber, the manager of a clothier's shop, and his wife Alice. He had two older siblings, Stanley Charles and Marjorie Alice. In February 1924 he went to work for Williams Deacon's Bank at its Doncaster branch.  

 

In September 1942 Barber left the bank to go on military service. By 1946 he was a Flying Officer in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. He died on 18 March 1946, while stationed in India. He was 39 years old and left a widow, Hilda, whom he had married in 1934. 

 

Elliott Barber is commemorated on a bank war memorial at Hardman Boulevard office, Manchester.
