Edward Mason Bibby was born on 22 December 1920, the son of Edward and Florence Bibby. He joined the staff of District Bank as a clerk at its Bowness branch in November 1938. 

In February 1941 Bibby left the bank to go on military service, joining the South Lancashire Regiment and later the Parachute Regiment. By August 1944 Bibby held the rank of Lieutenant. He took part in the Normandy campaign, during which he was killed on 19 August 1944. He was 23 years old.
