Clarence Herbert Bloomfield was born on 1 May 1911, the son of Constance Nella and Rochfort Herbert Bloomfield. He worked for Coutts & Co, London.
In December 1940 Bloomfield left the bank to go on military service, becoming a Signalman in the Royal Navy. He was part of the crew of HMS Birmingham, a Navy light cruiser, when it was torpedoed by a U boat off the coast of Cyrenaica on 28 November 1943. Signalman Bloomfield, along with some of his crewmates, was killed. He was 32 years old.
Clarence Bloomfield is commemorated on a bank memorial at Coutts & Co, London 440 Strand.
