Arthur Geoffrey Bailey was born on 25 July 1917, the son of Arthur Cecil and Eleanor Florence Bailey. He joined the staff of Westminster Bank in May 1935.
In August 1939 he left his job at the bank’s Herne Hill branch, where he had worked since November 1937, to join the Royal Navy.
Paymaster Sub-Lieutenant Bailey was killed when the aircraft carrier on which he was serving, HMS Glorious, was sunk off the coast of Norway on 8 June 1940. He was 23 years old.
Arthur Bailey is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest London Tooting branch.
