Andrew Paton Buchanan was born in 1919, the son of Archibald and Margaret Buchanan of Greenock. He worked for Commercial Bank of Scotland at its Paisley Eastern branch.
During the Second World War Buchanan left the bank to go on military service, becoming a Private in the Royal Army Service Corps. He was drowned at sea between 1 and 2 September 1941. He was 22 years old.
Andrew Buchanan is commemorated on a bank war memorial at Gogarburn campus, Edinburgh.
