James Cecil Alcuin Allchin was born on 27 October 1920, the son of Alfred Ernest and Violet Ethel Allchin. He joined the staff of Westminster Bank in September 1938.
In November 1940 Allchin left his job at the bank’s Hythe branch to join the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve.
In November 1941 Pilot Officer Allchin was declared missing when his aircraft failed to return from a raid over Berlin. It was later confirmed that he had died in the course of that raid, on 8 November 1941, less than two weeks after his 21st birthday.
James Allchin is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest Folkestone branch.
