Eric Sidney John Armstrong was born on 2 April 1923, the son of Sidney Philip and Mary Amstrong. In January 1940, when he was 16 years old, he joined the temporary wartime staff of Westminster Bank, working at the bank's Walthamstow branch. He later left the bank to go on war service, becoming a Trooper in the Royal Armoured Corps (East Riding Yeomanry).
Trooper Armstrong died in France on 28 June 1944. He was 21 years old.
Eric Armstrong is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest London Walthamstow Central branch.
