William Gibson Young was born on 30 October 1892, the son of William and Margaret Young. In May 1909 he went to work for Manchester & Liverpool District Banking Co. He completed his bank apprenticeship in 1913 and was appointed to a clerkship.
In November 1915 Young left his job at the bank's Liverpool branch to join the army. Lance Corporal William Gibson Young of the Middlesex Regiment died of wounds received in action on the Somme on 19 March 1917. He was 24 years old.
