William George Douglas Watson was born in Annan, Dumfriesshire, in 1881, the son of Charles Watson, a solicitor, and his wife Sarah. Watson followed in his father's footsteps, serving an apprenticeship in law and becoming a solicitor in Annan. He was also joint agent of The Royal Bank of Scotland's branch in the town.
During the First World War Watson left Annan to go on military service. By 1917 he was a Captain in the King's Own Scottish Borderers. He died in Egypt on 19 April 1917. He was 36 years old.
William George Douglas Watson is commemorated on a bank war memorial at 36 St Andrew Square, Edinburgh.
