Thomas Wiseman was born on 4 June 1899, the son of James Wiseman, an insurance agent, and his wife Mary. In June 1914, when he was 15 years old, he went to work for National Bank of Scotland as an apprentice at its Glasgow St Rollox branch.

 

During the First World War Wiseman joined the army, serving as a Private in the Royal Scots (Lothian Regiment). He was killed in action on the Western Front on 25 April 1918. He was 18 years old.

 

Thomas Wiseman is commemorated on a bank war memorial at Gogarburn campus, Edinburgh
