Robert Douglas Watt was born in Cambusnethan, Lanarkshire, in 1892, the son of James and Eliza Jessie Watt. In November 1907 he went to work for Commercial Bank of Scotland.
During the First World War Watt left his job in the bank's Wishaw branch to join the army, serving as a Private in the Royal Scots (Lothian Regiment). He was killed in action in France on 27 September 1918.
Robert Watt is commemorated on a bank war memorial at 36 St Andrew Square, Edinburgh.
