Robert Duncan Wilson was born in Barony, Lanarkshire, in 1893. In 1909 he went to work for Commercial Bank of Scotland.

 

In July 1915 Wilson was appointed teller at the bank's Dumfries branch. He subsequently left that job to go on military service, becoming a Private in the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders. He was killed in action on the Somme on 28 August 1916.

 

Robert Wilson is commemorated on a bank war memorial at 36 St Andrew Square, Edinburgh.
