John Goldsmith Wood was born in London in 1890, the son of Richard Allen Wood and his wife Annie. He worked as a clerk, initially for an estate agent, but in about 1912 he took a job with Parr's Bank.
During the First World War Wood left his job at the bank's London Bartholomew Lane branch to join the army, and by 1916 he was a Second Lieutenant in the South Lancashire Regiment. He was killed in action in France on 8 December 1916.
John Wood is commemorated on a bank war memorial held at NatWest Group Archives.
