Herbert Frank Wixcey was born in Islington in 1885, the son of Richard Wixcey, a fancy box maker, and his wife Phoebe. After leaving school Wixcey initially became an accountant's clerk, but in January 1905 he took a job with London & County Bank. In 1909 London & County Bank merged with London & Westminster Bank and Wixcey became an employee of the enlarged London County & Westminster Bank.
In May 1916 Wixcey left his job as a clerk at the bank's London head office to go on military service, initially as a Private in The Buffs (East Kent Regiment). In December 1917 he was commissioned into the Royal Sussex Regiment.
Second Lieutenant Wixcey was killed in action on 7 August 1918. He was 33 years old and left a widow, Olive, whom he had married in 1910.
