Henry Charles Wookey was born on 11 March 1899, the son of Thomas Henry Wookey, a caretaker, and his wife Rachel. He was educated at Westminster City School. In April 1916 Wookey went to work for Williams Deacon's Bank, working at its branches in London Birchin Lane and, later, London St Mary Axe.
During the First World War Wookey joined the army. Corporal Henry Charles Wookey of the Royal Sussex Regiment, attached to The Queen's Own (Royal West Kent Regiment), was killed in action in France on 30 April 1918. He was 19 years old.
Henry Wookey is commemorated on a bank war memorial at Hardman Boulevard office, Manchester.
