Edward Copley Ward was born in 1899, the son of George John Ward and his wife Hannah. In August 1915 he went to work for Bradford District Bank as an apprentice in its Bradford office. He later transferred to Leeds branch.
In May 1917 Ward left the bank to join the army, serving as a Private in the West Yorkshire Regiment. He was killed in action in Belgium on 12 April 1918. He was 18 years old.
