Charles Weeds was born in Stockport in 1896, the son of William Weeds, a stationmaster, and his wife Caroline. From about 1912 he worked for Parr's Bank.
In November 1915 Weeds left his job at the bank's Birmingham branch to join the army, serving as a Gunner in the Royal Garrison Artillery. He was killed in action in France on 2 October 1918. He was 22 years old.
