Alexander Wilson was born in about 1895, the son of John Wilson, a collector of rates, and his wife Elizabeth. In February 1912 he went to work for Commercial Bank of Scotland, and in October 1914 he was appointed to the staff of the bank's Edinburgh Nicolson Street branch.
Early in the First World War Wilson left the bank to go on military service as a Private in the Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders. He was killed in action in France on 3 November 1915. He was 20 years old.
Alexander Wilson is commemorated on a bank war memorial at 36 St Andrew Square, Edinburgh.
