Francis Ignatius Turner was born in Preston on 23 November 1891, the son of John Turner, a brewer's clerk, and his wife Alice. In September 1907 he went to work for Manchester & County Bank.
In September 1914 Turner left his job at the bank's Preston branch to join the army, initially in The Loyal North Lancashire Regiment. He was later commissioned into the West Yorkshire Regiment. Second Lieutenant Francis Ignatius Turner was killed in action in France on 27 September 1918. He was 26 years old.
