Ernest Albert Isaac Taylor was born in Yokohama, Japan, in about 1883, the son of the Reverend Isaac John Taylor and his wife Caroline Jane. He was educated at Merchant Taylors' School in the City of London. He worked for Union of London & Smiths Bank in various branches.
During the First World War Taylor left his job at the bank's Nottingham Smiths Bank branch to join the army. By 1918 he was a Captain in the Royal Field Artillery. He died at Salonika on 23 July 1918, of wounds received in action almost a fortnight earlier. He was 35 years old.
Ernest Taylor is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest City of London office.
