Emile Lucien Robert Tissot was born in Glasgow in 1898, the son of Lucien Ernest Robert Tissot, a Swiss-born French teacher, and his wife Rose. In July 1914 he went to work for Commercial Bank of Scotland.
During the First World War Tissot left his job at the bank's Glasgow Trongate branch to join the army, becoming a Private in the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders. He died on 12 April 1918 of wounds received in action in France. He was 19 years old.
Emile Tissot is commemorated on a bank war memorial at 36 St Andrew Square, Edinburgh.
