Basil William Taylor was born on 25 November 1892. He worked for Union of London & Smiths Bank.
During the First World War Taylor left his job at the bank's Grimsby Smiths Bank branch to join the army, becoming a Private in the Lincolnshire Regiment. He was killed in action on the first day of the Battle of the Somme, 1 July 1916. He was 23 years old.
Basil Taylor is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest City of London office.
