Thomas Warner Savatard was born in August 1878, the son of the Reverend Louis Savatard, vicar of Holy Trinity Church, Darwen, and his wife Mary. In February 1895 he went to work for Manchester & County Bank at its Darwen branch.
From 1908 Savatard was a volunteer soldier. He was mobilised at the outbreak of war in August 1914, leaving his job as one of the bank's inspectors, based at head office in Manchester, to go on active service. By 1915 he was a Captain in the Manchester Regiment, on active service at Gallipoli. He was killed in action there on 29 May 1915. He was 36 years old.
