Sydney Charles Sanderson was born on 2 June 1891, the son of Charles Sanderson and his wife Lily. He was educated at the choir school of the Chapel Royal, St James's. In January 1908 he went to work for Union of London & Smiths Bank at its Smiths office in Lombard Street, London.
During the First World War Sanderson left the bank to go on military service. By 1916 he was a Second Lieutenant in the London Regiment, on active service in France. He was killed in action there on 11 October 1916. He was 25 years old.
Sydney Sanderson is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest City of London office and on another held at NatWest Group Archives.
